Keep it short, (as short or long as the students' attention span).

Use as much colour as possible, without overkill.

Don't have objects entering a page over other objects.

Run it through on a large screen before you use it in class, especially to check how the font colour goes against the background.

If you intend to talk about aspects of the presentation, animate on the mouse click when you are custom animating rather than automatically.

If you Rehearse timings under the Slide Show pull down, then you will be stuck with those times for the presentation. This is only good if the presentation is to simply be viewed without additional comments during the presentation.

The objects are only as good as the diagrams you create. Good graphing and drawing programs are vital. Geometer's sketchpad and Wingeom are excellent.

The final position of an object can dictate which effect you choose to get the object onto the page.
