Membership
Categories of Membership
There are four categories - Personal, Special, Student and Institutional, and within each category, members choose to be Primary, Secondary or Primary and Secondary members.
- Personal Membership is available to any person interested in the aims of the Association (not available to institutions).
- Special Membership is only available to full-time post-graduate students, retired and unemployed persons and teachers in their first year of teaching who are interested in the aims of the Association. Teachers with part-time employment should join as Personal Members.
- Student Membership is available only to full-time undergraduate students.
- Institutional membership is available to schools, companies, and other institutions that are interested in the aims of the Association. These institutions are required to nominate a person to be their representative. This person is entitled to vote at general meetings.
Membership is for a calendar year. Members who have not renewed their annual subscription by 1 April each year cease to be
members of the Association. Those joining later in the year receive back copies of relevant material for that year.
Membership Entitlements
Primary Personal Members receive eight newsletters, four issues of the primary journal Square One, three PAMphlets
containing teaching ideas, discounts on single copies of publications and discounts on inservice programs.
Secondary Personal Members receive eight newsletters, four issues of the secondary journal Reflections, the solutions book for the current year's HSC, discounts on single copies of publications and discounts on inservice programs.
Special Members receive all newsletters and Journals for their category, discounts on single copies of publications and discounts on inservice programs.
Student Members receive eight newsletters, four issues of a MANSW Journal in accordance with the category for which they subscribe and are eligible for discounts on single copies of publications and discounts on inservice programs.
Institutional Members (both Primary and Secondary) receive all newsletters and Journals for their category, will be able to send two staff members to each inservice program at the discounted rate, will have access to cheaper rates for their students attending student-based activities and receive discounts on bulk orders of publications.
Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers (AAMT)
MANSW is affiliated with AAMT, the national federation of the twelve state and regionally based mathematics teachers
associations in Australia. AAMT works to support the work of teachers, promote the learning of mathematics and represent and
promote interest in mathematics education. Through our affiliation MANSW members are automatically members of AAMT,
giving MANSW a voice in national education issues. MANSW contributes a fee of $25 per Personal or Special Member and $35
per Institutional Member to AAMT. All MANSW members are entitled to receive copies of the AAMT newsletter HCF (Student
Members receive HCF by e-mail only) and member discounts on AAMT publications.
